While tonlé has closed, the work continues through two complementary paths that build upon everything we learned together.
The Evolution
KaTik: The Workshop Continues
The production workshop in Cambodia is now KaTik, run by members of the former tonlé team who have been at the heart of our zero-waste production for years. KaTik continues the innovative manufacturing practices we developed together, creating their own line while also producing for other ethical brands and designers.
Through KaTik, the expertise in low-waste and zero-waste production techniques lives on, supporting both established and emerging designers who share our commitment to sustainable fashion. The handwoven fabrics made from tiny scraps, the careful transformation of deadstock materials, the collaborative approach to design and production—all of this continues under local leadership in Cambodia.
Conscious Assembly: Expanding Our Impact
With new partners, the tonlé website and digital platforms have evolved into Conscious Assembly—a sustainable fashion marketplace that builds upon what tonlé created while expanding our impact to support other makers, designers, and brands on their sustainability journeys.
We recognized that the challenges tonlé faced—operational burdens, misaligned industry incentives, the difficulty of scaling ethical production—aren't unique to one brand. Sustainable fashion needs more than individual companies working in isolation. It needs collaborative infrastructure that helps brands, makers, and customers work together as equal partners.
Conscious Assembly creates that infrastructure by:
- Supporting brands through operational resources, manufacturing connections, and community
- Empowering makers through fair economic structures like our maker fund
- Educating customers about supply chains, impact, and their role as partners in systemic change
- Building collaboration over competition through revenue-sharing and mutual success
